Dr. Kaitlin, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child’s first dental visit be scheduled by his/her 1st birthday. By establishing your dental home early in life, our goal at Children’s Dental Centre is to prevent dental decay so that your child can be ‘cavity free’ for life. This creates for a positive dentist-patient relationship with your child allowing us to make dental visits something to look forward to instead of the opposite. During an infant examination, Dr. Kaitlin will examine your infant’s mouth as well as discuss oral hygiene techniques, diet, and fluoride exposure. Dr. Kaitlin knows that each child has individual needs and will establish a preventive program with you and your child to optimize their dental health.
We understand that the first visit can be scary for both your child and you as well. We take every effort to ensure that it is a pleasant experience. A positive and fun first visit builds trust and allows your child to feel more comfortable during future dental visits. However, we do understand that tears are a natural protective mechanism especially for very young children. Knowing this, we do our very best to be a calming effect and ensure that we are not harming your child in any way. Dr. Kaitlin and her staff will explain everything that they are doing and are more than happy to answer any questions you or your child may have. Children’s Dental Centre and Dr. Kaitlin are experienced in managing anxious children and are able to explain treatment procedures in a pleasant manner in order to avoid any negative feelings toward dentistry.
At the first visit, we will review your child’s medical and dental history, complete a comprehensive examination, and discuss any findings and recommendations with you. We will also review the importance of oral hygiene and maintaining a good dental health program with you and your child. We want every child to have a healthy and beautiful smile because they never go out of style. We look forward to meeting you and your child!
